According to the latest organic cotton market report published by the Textile Exchange, India is the world leader in the production of organic cotton, followed by China, Turkey, Tanzania, USA, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Mali, Uganda and Peru. Pakistan, despite being the fourth largest producer of conventional cotton could not make any place in the top 10 league.
India is also at the top of the list of countries with organic content standard (OCS) certified facilities, followed by Bangladesh, China, Turkey, South Korea, Japan, Pakistan, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka and Germany.
Top 10 users of organic cotton by volume include H&M, C&A, Puma, Nike, Decathlon, Tchibo, Coop Swiss, Target, Williams-Sonoma and Inditex (Zara).
